finally, another chance to see
pinback again! this time in support of their "summer in abaddon". the theatre plaza is an unusually classy venue for an underground band like pinback. pinback (now a quintet) started with favourites 'bloods on fire' and 'concrete seconds' (
quicktime). during the first part i had to get used to their live sound: all the songs are so much faster and louder than on the record. halfway during the show they did 'grey machine', a 10 minutes opus which was a pleasant surprise (
quicktime). from then on the setlist was perfect until the end. here's a last
quicktime movie of the encores: 'prog' and a superfast 'manchuria'. by the way: the support act was an excellent band from montréal (postrock with a singer that looked like wilco's jeff tweedy) but i forgot the name. i'll post it as soon as i find out how they were called. and now we are getting ready to see the strokes!
