piknic electronik

the "piknic electronik" is a big open air electro party, thrown every sunday afternoon in summer in parc jean drapeau. since the parc is located on an island right next to the island of montréal, you can dance in the sunshine while enjoying a great view of montréal's skyline. and so we did ... or rather we hung around lounging in the grass fields most of the day & then danced a little... chill!

cammac - the concert

my comeback as a flute player went well. and so did my debut as a tambourine player. the performance wasn't perfect, but without catastrophical mistakes. the audience was enthousiastic, the conductor was relieved. hardcore cammac orchestra fans can download this little movie (quicktime, 3 mb).

summer

even though we already announced the arrival of springtime in montréal early in march - this time it's the real thing! with temperatures around 25° celsius, montréal people are seriously getting ready for summer. this season includes the traditional "ventes de garage" or "ventes de déménagement", popping up everywhere on the streets (a little boy sold me a big blue fruit basket for 1 $). i guess this must be related to the majority of leases ending on the 1st of july, creating a huge moving frenzy around that date.

i want it that way

there are people who think that there are too many musical topics on this blog. i'm sorry for them, because here are two japanese boys doing a spoof of backstreet boys' classic "i want it that way".

pinback

finally, another chance to see pinback again! this time in support of their "summer in abaddon". the theatre plaza is an unusually classy venue for an underground band like pinback. pinback (now a quintet) started with favourites 'bloods on fire' and 'concrete seconds' (quicktime). during the first part i had to get used to their live sound: all the songs are so much faster and louder than on the record. halfway during the show they did 'grey machine', a 10 minutes opus which was a pleasant surprise (quicktime). from then on the setlist was perfect until the end. here's a last quicktime movie of the encores: 'prog' and a superfast 'manchuria'. by the way: the support act was an excellent band from montréal (postrock with a singer that looked like wilco's jeff tweedy) but i forgot the name. i'll post it as soon as i find out how they were called. and now we are getting ready to see the strokes!

sum-ming and lok-ming

the to sisters enjoyed about 10 days of holiday in montreal. they know the city better than us by now, and made us discover new montreal treasures like the cinérobothèque and some great shops. the jardin botanique & co are still to be discovered by us... thanks girls!
