we spent the second weekend of july at val david, a village in the laurentians, a mountainous region north of montreal. the first reason for us to be there was our friend
baptiste's gig, and the fact that pieter plays keyboards in baptiste's band. the gig was at the
bistro mouton noir, a great place you wouldn't expect to find in such a small town. it's actually more of a cultural centre than a bistro - they organize lots of concerts, exhibitions with local artists, salsa courses... the bistro is located right next to a river and has a big terrace - the perfect place to spend warm summer evenings. mosquitos or "maringuouins" are included.

the other reason of our weekend away was our second wedding anniversary! we thought we'd celebrate and stay at a nice
b&b after the baptiste show. we even found a brand new b&b - its official opening was that very weekend. we were the second visitors staying in the room inspirationally named "rĂªves doux" (sweet dreams).

we took a bike ride along the "
petit train du nord" trail, went for a swim in the b&b's lake and played a game of mini golf at nearby saint-anne-des-monts. guess who won the game...
