the comeback of the catholic church of montréal
québecois people have been using church terms as their favourite swearing vocabulary for years. words like "tabernacle", "hostie", "calice", replace our "sh**" "f****" etc. but now the church has decided to take control of the situation again. the publicity campaign for its annual collection shows huge posters explaining the actual meaning of these popular curses. quite strange actually, to see "tabernacle" (the equivalent of a strong "sh**" let's say) written in enormous letters on a church's facade.

Ah, ok, now I understand Pieter's strange use of the term for an eclesiastical attribute an topoym in one of his recent emails.
For your info: some of my Italian uncles cry out the word 'ostia' as a swearword. Could be a link between Québecois and Italian slang.
